Welcome to Hamilton Medical Center’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for babies born too small or too ill.
We are here if you need us at one of the times you need us most.
Because you, as a parent, are an essential member of your baby’s care team, we encourage you to be with your baby as much as possible. After all, the baby is yours; we are just taking care of the baby until he/she is strong enough to go home.
NICU – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
With 24 hours a day, seven days a week – neonatal coverage, neonatologists (pediatricians with specialized training in taking care of babies that are sick or have problems at birth) are available for any delivery requiring a specialized physician.
The Turner Neonatal Intensive Care Pavilion, Hamilton Medical Center’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has a whole new look in an expanded space, including 6,400 square feet of renovations.
The unit was completely redesigned in the fall of 2012. The expansion includes eight level II rooms and four Level III rooms for ill and premature infants.
Currently, Hamilton’s NICU is the only one between Atlanta and Nashville that offers single-family rooms where parents can stay with their critically ill infants.
The NICU is located within the nursery and was previously referred to as the Special Care Nursery. We understand the tremendous benefit in keeping moms and babies in the same hospital and are thrilled that we have the ability to care for these special needs babies in the comfort of their own community rather than transferring them to Atlanta or Chattanooga.
Being a Level III NICU enables us to care for ill or premature babies. While we wish that all babies could be born healthy, if a sick or premature baby is born, we want to provide the best care possible to our patients when this occurs.
NICU visitation is permitted at any time of the day with a few exceptions:
- No visitors between 6:30-7:30 (am & pm)
- During admissions and procedures
- All visitors must be accompanied by one of the baby’s parents. Only 2 visitors at a time.
- No visitors under the age of 14 are permitted in the NICU (this includes siblings).
