More than 100 health care professionals recently provided physicals to student athletes from Dalton State College and local high and middle schools. More than 1,600 students participated.
Volunteers included physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and other health care professionals.
The medical professionals provided sports physicals, which involved checks on vital signs, height, weight and vision, a review of their comprehensive medical questionnaires, and a physical screening.
After all the physicals were done, any athlete who needed cardiac clearance was able to get this done for free, provided by representatives from Hamilton Cardiology Associates.
Hamilton Sports Medicine, a program provided by Hamilton Medical Center, coordinates the event every year with the schools. Hamilton Sports Medicine provides athletic trainers for outreach athletic assistance at Dalton State College and Christian Heritage, Dalton High, Northwest Whitfield High, Southeast Whitfield High, Murray County High,
North Murray High, Coahulla Creek High, Calhoun High and Lafayette High schools. As part of the program, an athletic trainer is on-sight at local high school, college and community sports events.
