Anna Shaw Children’s Institute Plans Easter Egg-Stravaganza

Children of all ages are welcome to attend the Anna Shaw Children’s Institute (ASCI) Easter Egg-Stravaganza on Saturday, March 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Miracle Field at Westside Park, 1519 Mount Vernon Road in Rocky Face.

The event will include an egg hunt, petting zoo, face painting, horses, balloon animals, crafts, and pick-up ducks.

Egg hunt times are scheduled based on age. Times include 2 to 2:30 p.m. for ages 4 and under, 2:30 to 3 p.m. for ages 5 to 8, 3 to 3:30 p.m. for ages 9 to 12, and 3:30 to 4 p.m. for ages 13 and older.

“We hope you’ll join us for the whole event, not just for the scheduled egg hunts,” said Jessica Truelove, ASCI practice manager. “The other activities will be a lot of fun and a great way to make memories.”

Hamilton To Offer Take It To Heart Program

Hamilton Medical Center (HMC) will offer its next Take it to Heart Program on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 26 at scheduled times. The program includes a free cardiac risk assessment and information to help you prevent future heart problems.

“By knowing your risk, you can take steps to avoid heart disease,” said Stephen Rohn, MD, cardiologist at Hamilton Physician Group – Cardiology.

Take it to Heart is a two-part program. The first part consists of an educational seminar in the Brown Auditorium at HMC, presented by Rohn.  His presentation includes education on causes, risk and genetic factors, diet, exercise, symptoms, treatments and medications.

The second part, held at Hamilton Diagnostics Center, is a cardiac risk assessment including blood pressure, calcium scoring, lab work (total cholesterol and HDL), height, weight and a series of questions.

This program is free and open to anyone who has not participated in Take it to Heart in the last five years, is not currently being treated by a cardiologist, has not had stents put in, and has at least two of the following risk factors: Family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, history of smoking and being overweight.

A physician’s order for the cardiac scoring is required. Please have your physician send the order to Hamilton Diagnostics Center on or before Feb. 22 in order to receive a free CT scan. If you do not have a primary care provider, please call 706-272-6114. Fasting for lab assessment is required.

Anna Shaw Children’s Institute To Offer Family Class On Learning DifferencesThe Anna Shaw Children’s Institute (ASCI), 1201 Burleyson Road, will hold a family support class on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. in the Southern Magnolia Rooms on first floor of the facility. The topic will be “Learning Differences.”

 

Nancy Carnevale, MD, medical director, and Nancy Tomanelli, occupational therapist, will present the class.

This class is part of ASCI’s CHAMP series. CHAMP stands for Classes to Help, Advise and Motivate Parents. The sessions will be held on the first Tuesday of each month. The CHAMP series is open to families of children of any age.

Please register by calling 706-226-8911. Space is limited. Limited childcare for children 12 and under will be available. To receive assistance with interpretation services and/or auxiliary aids during this event, please let us know when registering.

Anna Shaw Children’s Institute to Offer Family Class On Managing Tantrums

Family Class On Managing TantrumsThe Anna Shaw Children’s Institute (ASCI), 1201 Burleyson Road, will hold a family support class on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. in the Southern Magnolia Rooms on first floor of the facility. The topic will be “Early Childhood: Managing Tantrums by Encouraging Interaction and Communication.”

 

Kelsey Nelson, BCBA, board certified behavioral analyst, and Jennifer Bray, BSW, social worker, will present this class, which focuses on being a good “interactor” with children with developmental challenges. Tips to deal with tantrums will be a part of the program.

 

This class is part of ASCI’s CHAMP series. CHAMP stands for Classes to Help, Advise and Motivate Parents. The sessions will be held on the first Tuesday of each month. The CHAMP series is open to families of children of any age.

Hamilton to Provide Free School Supplies

Back to school eventHamilton Health Care System will host a back-to-school celebration at Hamilton Physician Group – Murray Campus, 800 GI Maddox Parkway in Chatsworth (MAP), on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade may pick up school supplies while supplies last. Each child must be present to receive the supplies.

Free Kona Ice will also be provided to children who attend the event.

The Anna Shaw Children’s Institute (ASCI), 1201 Burleyson Road, will hold a family support class on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. in the Southern Magnolia Rooms on the first floor of the facility. The topic will be “Back to School.”

This class is part of ASCI’s CHAMP series. CHAMP stands for Classes to Help, Advise and Motivate Parents. The sessions will be held each month. The CHAMP series is open to families of children of any age.

Nancy Carnevale, MD, medical director, and Nancy Tomanelli, occupational therapist, will present the class, which will include information on managing organization, study skills, handwriting, and more.

Please register by calling 706-226-8911. Space is limited. Childcare will be available for the first 10 families requesting the service.

Participants are encouraged to park in the lower lot since the upper doors will be locked by 6 p.m.
