Snodgrass recently joined Hamilton Physician Group – Convenient Care in Dalton. He is a board-certified family medicine physician.

He completed his medical training at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, Mo.; his internship at the Naval Hospital Pensacola in Pensacola, Fla.; and his residency at the Medical Center of Columbus in Columbus, Ga. He recently provided primary care services in Calhoun and Rome.

His two older sisters are nurses, and his mother was a nurse practitioner, “so I’ve always wanted to be involved in the healthcare field,” Snodgrass says. “I wanted to be in family practice because of the variety. All patients have different needs.”

In his free time, Snodgrass says he enjoys fishing, hiking and water activities.

Snodgrass provides primary care and is accepting new patients. Walk-ins are welcome. To schedule an appointment with him, call Hamilton Physician Group – Convenient Care at 706-529-3245.

Sprig and Dig Garden Club Makes Donation to Anna Shaw Children’s Institute

July 10, 2020

To commemorate the longevity of the Sprig and Dig Garden Club, members decided to donate two planting benches and a gift certificate from Fiddleheads to the Anna Shaw Children’s Institute (ASCI). The club is celebrating 50 years this year.

“It is our sincere wish that this donation will inspire these children to appreciate nature, realize the wonder and beauty of growing plants and just enjoy digging in the dirt,” said Rita Fordham, president of the club.

Dalton’s Sprig and Dig Garden Club recently donated two planting benches and a gift certificate from Fiddleheads. At the planting bench, from left, are JD Lea, Ashley Lantz (physical therapist) and Rosalee Truelove. Standing behind are Sprig and Dig Garden Club members Sarah Maret, Ann Viamonte, Betty Sponcler and Mary Hardin.

Fordham was the first president when it began in February of 1970, elected in her absence because she was at the hospital to give birth to her first child. There are six active charter members in the club, including Fordham, Nancy Hyatt, Sarah Maret, Brenda Patterson, Betty Sponcler and Jean Strain.

“We really appreciate the generosity of the Sprig and Dig Garden Club,” said Terri Woodruff, ASCI executive director. “The planting benches are a beautiful addition.  These will provide an opportunity for our patients to do some digging and feel the texture of dirt, flower petals, and succulents. Children will also get the enriched experience of watching the plants grow as they water and care for them.”

The Sprig and Dig Garden Club has supported several projects throughout its existence. Members have maintained the garden outside of the Northwest Georgia Regional Library for more than 40 years. The club has donated trees to the Tree Board, decorated the Christmas trees every year at Hamilton Medical Center, and supported the Historic Huff House landscape project. The club has participated in the Dalton flower shows, the Garden Club Council and the 2006 Georgia Historic House and Garden Pilgrimage.

“Our group feels blessed to be able to make these donations and bring our love of nature to our community,” said Fordham. “We hope the children who use the planting benches will realize the joys of gardening that we enjoy and appreciate the love of nature that we wish to pass on to the next generations.”

Quinton Memorial Holds Social Distancing Parade for Residents, Family Members

May 19, 2020

Quinton Memorial Health and Rehabilitation hosted a parade for residents and family membersQuinton Memorial Health and Rehabilitation hosted a parade for residents and family members on May 1. Visitation has been restricted since early March to protect residents from COVID-19.

Members of the care plan team had been working on creative strategies to allow family members and residents to see each other, and the social distancing parade idea was developed.

“When I got the call from Quinton, I was overjoyed,” said Eileen Stone, daughter of Veronica OMahoney, a Quinton resident. “I haven’t been able to see my mom since early March. I just think it was the best idea ever.”

Since the visitation restrictions began, Stone said she and her mom have been writing letters back and forth every week.

According to Stone, her mom was obviously excited about the parade. “She (OMahoney) had the biggest smile on her face and was holding out her hands to us,” Stone said. “It was heartwarming to see all the smiling faces. It was the best!”

Stone said she is very thankful for the Quinton staff members. “They’re the most caring group of caregivers. I appreciate them more than they know,” she said.

Staff members helped residents make posters to hold up as their family members drove by at a safe distance. Residents lined up outside the facility while following social distancing rules.

More than 50 vehicles, including a Dalton Fire Department fire truck and Hamilton Emergency Medical Services ambulance, were part of the parade. Most vehicles included multiple family members, and some included pets.

“I loved the parade,” said Marie Dann, a Quinton resident since 2011. “It was good to see my two sons even if I couldn’t touch them. I wouldn’t change a thing. Everyone was having a good time and the staff were wonderful.  Let’s do it again!”

All of the Hamilton Long Term Care facilities are planning family parades. Quinton Memorial was the first one scheduled.
