SUMMARY OF RESIDENTS’ BENEFITS
HMC provides benefits to HMC employed residents scheduled to work 40 or more hours per biweekly pay period. Health and dental benefits will be effective on the first day of your employment, as long as you complete your enrollment within 31 days of your employment start date. If you fail to enroll, your next opportunity will be during the annual open enrollment period, unless you have a qualifying life event that affects your eligibility for these benefits. Qualifying life event changes must be submitted to the Human Resources Department within 31 days of the qualifying life event or the change won’t be allowed.
Costs of these plans are either paid by HMC or shared with the employee as described below, which provides an overview of the benefits; all benefits described herein are subject to the applicable terms and conditions of coverage and HMC policies and procedures.

Coverage Ends on the last day of the payroll period in which the termination/status change is effective. If you have been on a leave for a continuous 12 months, benefits will end on the last day of the payroll period in which the 12-month period is reached.
WORKER’S COMPENSATION
You are covered for medical expenses and lost work time due to injury or illness that is job-related. Also, your survivors are protected in case of your death due to a job-related injury or illness.
RESIDENCY (EMPLOYEE) ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Residency (Employee) Assistance Program (RAP) is a free, confidential counseling and referral service available to all employees and their family members. The RAP is staffed by trained mental health professionals, and all RAP services are provided free of charge to employees. This program is separate from the health plans provided by HMC.

RETIREMENT SAVINGS PLAN
Eligibility:
Enrollment in your plan is automatic. This is how the automatic enrollment process works:
• You will be automatically enrolled at a 5% pretax payroll reduction
Associates may opt-out of participating or change their retirement plan deduction if they desire.
Matching Contributions
If you contribute at least 1% of your compensation to the plan, Hamilton will contribute $1 for every $1 that you contribute, up to an amount equal to 5% of your compensation after satisfying the entry requirement to be eligible for the matching contribution. Eligible associates will only receive employer matching contributions if they achieve a minimum of 1,000 paid hours in the calendar year.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS (FSAs)

PAY DUE TO ABSENCES OR ILLNESSES
Residents accrue 10 days of sick time per year. Sick time days do not carry forward into the next contract year, and there is no pay-out for unused sick time.
PERSONAL LEAVE
Residents accrue 3 personal leave days per contract year. Personal leave days do not carry forward into the next contract year, and there is no pay-out for unused personal leave.
PAID VACATION BENEFITS
Residents are entitled to three (3) weeks of vacation leave per contract year. Balances do not carry forward into the next contract year, and there is no pay-out for unused vacation leave. Residents may take two (2) consecutive weeks of vacation leave with approval of the Program Director.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Residents will be reimbursed, upon receipt of invoices and in accordance with HMC residency policy: Educational Allotment/ Additional Funding, and Residency Travel Policy for approved continuing medical education and scholarly activities in the amount of $3000 per contract year. Educational leave for continuing medical education and scholarly activities must be approved in advance by the Program Director as per the HMC residency policy: Residency Leave Provision Policy. Tuition reimbursement for additional education and certification examinations will be reimbursed according to the HMC Policy: Tuition Reimbursement.
OTHER EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT
Residents will receive on Laptop at the beginning of the contract year. The Laptop is the property of HMC and must be returned upon non-renewal or termination. Residents will have access to online resources available through the HMC Medical Library. Residents will have Ambulatory Curriculum Access throughout the contract year provided within the continuity clinic setting.
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP
During the contract year, HMC shall pay for Resident’s membership in the American College of Physicians (“ACP”) and shall provide Residents with access to the latest version of ACP’s Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program.
BOARD PREPARATION
During the final year of the Program, HMC will pay for one approved Board preparation course.
WELLNESS CENTER
Resident receive membership at the HMC Wellness Center at no cost. Applications will be completed during orientation process.
CLOTHING
Residents receive three (3) free lab coats and three (3) sets of scrubs for use when on-call. Additional lab coats and/or scrubs will be at the Resident’s cost.
DIRECT DEPOSIT
HMC offers you the convenience of having your bi-weekly pay directly deposited into an account at any financial institution.
PARKING
HMC offers free reserved parking for Residents located on campus
MEALS
You will receive a meal allowance of $20/ day. Food will be available to you during hours when the cafeteria is closed.
SOCIAL SECURITY
HMC contributes to this government plan in accordance with applicable law. Social Security is designed to provide individuals with retirement income, benefits in case of disability or death and Medicare benefits.
COBRA
Under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA), you have the right to continue your medical and dental coverage in the event you leave HMC or your benefit eligible status changes. Under COBRA, you pay the full cost of these plans plus an additional 2% administrative fee.

HMC benefit year begins on July 1st. You will be notified of any changes to existing benefits during the new Resident orientation process or in the Open Enrollment mailing to your home
