Dear Residents and Families,
The facility is monitoring and concerned with the rise of COVID-19 cases within our region due to the Omicron variant. In our efforts to partner with you to ensure safe visitation, the facility recommends reviewing the guidelines that are in place.
If the facility has initiated an outbreak investigation (i.e., a new COVID-19 case among residents or staff), or if the resident you are visiting is on transmission-based precautions (TBP) or quarantine, it is safer for you not to visit.
*Please do not visit a resident within the facility if:
- You (the visitor) have tested positive for COVID-19 in the prior 10 days and not yet recovered;
- You have had prolonged close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone with COVID-19 in the prior 10 days or you have otherwise met criteria for quarantine; or
- You have signs and symptoms of COVID-19 including: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, diarrhea, or nausea or vomiting.
We encourage you to become vaccinated. The following CDC website can provide you information: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/.
When Whitfield county has substantial or high levels of community transmission, we encourage you to be tested before coming to the facility (e.g., within 2-3 days). Please see the following website to determine the level of community transmission: https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#datatracker-home.
Please read and adhere to the following guidelines to help keep our residents, staff, and visitors safe:
- Use alcohol-based hand rub prior to visitation and after.
- You will be screened and asked to sign in on the visitor log provided by the facility, including contact information and attestation of COVID status if known.
- Please practice physical distancing with at least six feet between other residents and staff. To ensure that physical distancing can be maintained, please do not visit the resident during mealtimes in the dining rooms or during group activities. During your time in the facility, limit your movement within the facility to the designated visitation location for the duration of your visit.
- Physical distancing and source control recommendations when both the patient/resident and all of their visitors are fully vaccinated:
- While alone in the resident’s room or the designated visitation room, residents and their visitor(s) can choose to have close contact (including touch) and to not wear source control (face covering or mask).
- Visitors should wear source control (face covering or mask) and physically distance from other healthcare personnel and other patients/residents/visitors that are not part of their group at all other times while in the facility.
- Physical distancing and source control recommendations when either the resident or any of their visitors are not fully vaccinated:
- The safest approach is for everyone to maintain physical distancing and to wear source control. However, if the resident is fully vaccinated, they can choose to have close contact (including touch) with their unvaccinated visitor(s) while both continue to wear well-fitting source control (face covering or mask).

More testing is becoming available and the State of Georgia has a robust testing strategy to test as many residents and staff as possible in skilled nursing centers over the next two weeks. The goal is to test all residents and staff at least once. As you may imagine, this will require a multi-agency collaboration to accomplish this task including the Department of Public Health and National Guard.
Hamilton Long Term Care (HLTC) is currently procuring the testing supplies, coordinating necessary resources, and setting a timeframe for the testing to occur. HLTC will be an integral part of this testing process and continue to support your loved one during this time.
