COMMUNITY EDUCATION

The Whitfield Healthcare Foundation develops educational and insightful programs for the benefit of our community.

  • Brown Bag Luncheon

    A program that offers seniors the opportunity to have their prescription medications reviewed by a registered pharmacist. The program includes lunch, free blood pressure checkups and a speaker that addresses such issues as foot care, fitness and nutrition and the proper use and storage of medications.

  • Camp Sweet Control
    A one-day summer camp that provides an opportunity to educate children with diabetes to better understand and control their diabetes, to promote independence and self-discipline, to build self-confidence and self-esteem, and to give children the opportunity to develop friendships with other children with diabetes. The camp is held on the Hamilton Medical Center campus at the Bradley Center for Wellness, 1225 Broadrick Drive, Dalton, Georgia.

  • Camp Wheezy
    A two-day summer camp that provides a fun learning environment for children with asthma while focusing on important disease management issues associated with asthma. The camp is held on the Hamilton Medical Center campus at the Bradley Center for Wellness, 1225 Broadrick Drive, Dalton, Georgia.

  • Dare to Care
    A free two-day educational lecture and vascular screening program for individuals over the age of 50 with vascular risk factors.

  • Healthy Me, Healthy You

    This education program, developed in 1987 for junior and senior high school girls, prepares them for adult leadership. This four-hour program includes lunch and speakers that address topics such as "Growing Up Female", "Good Health and Exercise", "Eating for Life", and "Career Opportunities".

  • Pediatric Orientation
    An educational program that familiarizes a child with the hospital and includes a one-hour role-playing exercise based on a typical treatment as a patient in the hospital. This program is available to every first grade class in the Whitfield and Murray County school systems and accommodates approximately 80 elementary school classes annually.

  • Read to Me
    This program emphasizes the importance of reading to young children. The Foundation provides the mother of every baby born at Hamilton Medical Center with an informational brochure on the importance of reading to their child as well as giving each child a copy of the book, "Read To Your Bunny".

  • Wellspring for Women
    A community education luncheon program that provides women in the community with relevant, timely information regarding issues affecting women's health and well-being.
