Dalton, GA - In an effort to promote the importance of patient safety in hospitals, Hamilton Medical Center celebrated Patient Safety Awareness Week, March 6-12. The week-long celebration, developed by P.U.L.S.E. (Persons United Limiting Substandards and Errors in health care) and the Department of Veterans Affairs National Center for Patient Safety, encourages health care professionals to consider how they may improve patient safety in their organizations and speak more openly with consumers about health care safety. Patient Safety Awareness Week also urges patients to take greater responsibility for their health care by becoming a more informed health care consumer; keeping track of one’s history and medications; working with one’s doctor and other health care professionals as a team; involving a family member or friend in one’s care; and following doctor’s directions.

In conjunction with Patient Safety Awareness Week, Hamilton Medical Center provides patients and employees with educational tools designed to communicate safety tips and questions that can be used to improve safety.

"While patient safety is our primary mission 365 days a year, Hamilton Medical Center is honored to participate in a week that underscores our commitment to protecting the health of all our patients and encourages the public to be more informed consumers of health care services," said John Bowling, President and CEO of Hamilton Health Care System. "Patient Safety Week offers the ideal venue for HMC to recognize and celebrate the continuous enhancements our staff is making to make great patient care even better."
