Hamilton Diagnostics Center now employs advanced technology for diagnosing breast cancer with the GE Senographe workstation. It is the latest mammography technology available in the northwest Georgia and Chattanooga region.
According to Radiologist Elizabeth Paige Queen, MD. "X-rays are converted into digital computer images instead of using film and are aided by a state-of-the-art computer detection system which increases the Radiologist's ability to detect subtle breast cancers."
The benefit to Hamilton's patients is that digital mammography reduces exam times from 30 minutes to under 10 minutes and is less painful for patients.
"This new equipment is better at detecting cancer in women under 50 with dense breast tissue, in addition to women over 50 with fatty background breast tissue," said Dr. Queen.
She recommends that women get a baseline screen at the age of 35 and begin yearly exams at age 40.
