Technology

Medical Center offers cutting edge technology in the hospital, at Hamilton Diagnostics Center, and at Hamilton Specialty Imaging. Hamilton houses many of the leading imaging capabilities available.  Advanced digital imaging technology enables technicians to capture and store images electronically, without traditional X-rays. This innovation reduces radiation dosages, virtually eliminates re-takes and speeds results.

Siemens AXIOM Luminos dRF

This technology offers the advantages of both digital fluoroscopy and digital radiography.

  • Features a large dynamic flat detector

  • Delivers distortion-free fluoroscopy and radiography exposures (greater speed and clarity)

  • Easier patient access - lowers to just 19 inches from the floor

  • Foam cushioned table pads - allowing for greater patient comfort.

CT Imaging

The computed tomography departments at Hamilton Medical Center and Hamilton Diagnostic Center (HDC) feature the latest in CT imaging equipment including PET-CT. Utilizing both General Electric and Siemens CT scanners, Hamilton is able to offer the latest in imaging techniques including:

  • CT coronary angiograms
  • CT venograms
  • CT runoffs
  • CT fluoroscopic biopsy guidance

With the use of dose modulation techniques such as CARE Dose 4D®, Hamilton provides all these services while minimizing exposure to the patient. Hamilton’s CT department strives to meet the needs of our patients and referring physicians by being as accommodating as possible with appointments and scheduling.

CT Imaging

The computed tomography departments at Hamilton Medical Center and Hamilton Diagnostic Center (HDC) feature the latest in CT imaging equipment including the Optima CT660 system.

This new-generation, intelligent 128-slice scanner combines the advanced innovations from our Discovery and LightSpeed families. You get fast, high quality acquisition at optimized dose for patients young and old, large and small, across a wide spectrum of procedures: cardiac, angiography, brain, chest, abdomen, orthopedic, and more.

The Optima CT660 provides clinicians information for fast and definitive diagnoses in low-dose exams

DEXA Scanner

Hamilton Diagnostic Center uses the latest generation DEXA scanner to diagnose osteoporosis by measuring the mineral content of the patient's bones. DEXA technology -- which stands for 'Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry' – is relatively low cost and exposes the patient to a minimal level of radiation, compared to other methods of measuring bone mass.

The Lunar Prodigy Advance is the first in this community to utilize a direct-digital array detector and narrow-angle fan-beam technology to enhance efficiency and precision in spine, femur and total body measurements Osteoporosis screening is recommended by the World Health Organization as the best way to reduce the risk of hip and spinal fractures often associated with aging.

 Mammography

Advanced technology for diagnosing breast cancer with the GE Senographe workstation.  It is the latest mammography technology available in the northwest Georgia and Chattanooga region.

X-rays are converted into digital computer images instead of using film and are aided by a state-of-the-art computer detection system which increases the Radiologist's ability to detect subtle breast cancers.

Digital mammography reduces exam times from 30 minutes to under 10 minutes and is less painful for patients.

 MRI

MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio frequency waves without harmful radiation.  Hamilton Diagnostic Center now has High Field Open MRI with a 1.5 TESLA field strength which positively impacts the resolution quality of the images to show finer detail.  The new Magnetom Espree combines an unprecedented level of comfort with  the image  quality and diagnostic confidence of high field MRI.

Benefits include:

  • Table weight capacity of 550 pounds
  • Large bore diameter of 70cm
  • Compact length of 125cm
  • Claustrophobia should never be a factor
  • Breast imaging

Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine is the use of radioactive materials to diagnose and treat a variety of diseases and disorders.

For most procedures a low level and short lived radioisotope is used to minimize radiation exposure to the patient.

Hamilton Diagnostics Center (HDC) offers many nuclear medicine procedures including:

  • Bone Scans
  • Bone Spect Scans
  • Gallbladder Scans
  • Infection Scans
  • Kidney Scans
  • Liver Scans
  • Tumor Scans
  • Liver Hemangioma Scans
  • Parathyroid Scans
  • Thyroid Uptake and Scans
  • Thyroid Treatments

This is a sample list of common procedures.  For a specific procedure not listed contact HDC.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a very safe and effective way to visualize anatomic structures using high frequency sound waves.  Ultrasound is sometimes preferred because it does not use radiation and is a very non invasive procedure.

Hamilton Diagnostic Center offers many ultrasound and surgical procedures including:

  • Abdominal
  • Renal
  • Thyroid
  • Breast
  • Obstetrics including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters
  • Pelvic and Transvaginal
  • Neonatal head
  • Scrota

Vascular Ultrasounds include:

  • Carotid
  • Venous Doppler (upper and lower extremities)
  • Arterial Doppler (upper and lower extremities)

Procedures include:

  • Breast localizations
  • Breast Biopsies
  • Paracentesis
