| CardiacScore: The easy, pain-free way to check for coronary heart disease available only at Hamilton Diagnostics
What is CardiacScore?
CardiacScore is a simple, non-invasive diagnostic procedure that checks your coronary arteries for plaque. It takes just 10 minutes, and it's available only at Hamilton Diagnostics.
Using CT imaging technology, we take 70-90 images of your coronary arteries without any injections, needles or removal of clothing. A radiologist then determines your CardiacScore based on the amount of calcium or plaque detected in your coronary arteries.
You should get a CardiacScore if you:
Are a man age 45 or older
Are a woman age 55 or older
Have a family history of heart disease
Have high cholesterol
Have a history of smoking
Have high blood pressure
Have high stress levels
Live a sedentary lifestyle
Have diabetes
How it's done
First, you fill out a brief risk factor questionnaire. Next, you lie down on the imaging table while a CT technologist gently places a few EKG leads on you. Then you're asked to you hold your breath while the images are taken. It's that easy. Within 48 hours, you'll know your CardiacScore.
Is the procedure safe?
Yes. The radiation exposure during CardiacScore is very minimal (comparable to an X-ray). No injections or needles are needed.
And it's simple. In most cases, patients can keep their shirts or blouses on during the procedure (unless certain types of buttons or bra metal are involved).
What will my CardiacScore tell me?
CardiacScore detects even subtle early warning signs of heart disease. With this information, your doctor can recommend appropriate treatment, including diet and lifestyle changes, medication, and/or further testing.
Is coronary artery disease treatable?
Yes. The plaque buildup process can be slowed, stabilized and reversed, in some cases, through lifestyle changes and/or through medication under your doctor's guidance.
