Fireworks Safety MonthWith the Fourth of July just around the corner, you may be gearing up for an evening of colorful pyrotechnics to wow your friends and family. Before wowing your friends and family with a fireworks show, it is important to know what fireworks you can legally purchase and when you can set them off.

Fireworks you can legally buy in retail stores across Georgia include:

Bottle Rockets

Sky Rockets

Roman Candles

Firecrackers

Sparklers

Fountains

Missiles

Parachutes

Wheels and Spinners

Sky Flyers

Display Shells

You must be at least 18 years old to buy fireworks. Although Georgia Law doesn’t specify an exact age for igniting fireworks, it is important to remember that the majority of injuries happen to kids under the age of 16. It is illegal to light fireworks under the influence of drugs and alcohol. You can only ignite fireworks from 10am until midnight on the Fourth of July. While it is legal to set off fireworks at your home, be sure to check the laws for your particular neighborhood. Some apartment or condominium complexes or HOAs do not permit fireworks on the property. Do not light fireworks on roads or highways or within 100 yards of a hospital, nursing home, Prison, nuclear power plant or gas station or refinery. Fireworks are strictly prohibited in state parks.
