DALTON, Ga. – Philip “Bates” Bailey, MD, recently announced his retirement after 33 years in practice here.

A reception in Bailey’s honor will be held at Hamilton Cardiology Associates, 1436 Broadrick Drive, Suite B, on Sunday, June 9 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Born in Dalton, Bailey graduated from Dalton High School. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. His post-graduate medical training was at Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury, Conn.; Yale-New Haven Hospital; New Haven, Conn.; the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.; and the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.

Bailey was the senior medical officer of the USS Tarawa while serving in the U.S. Navy.

He has been an active member of Hamilton Medical Center since 1980, serving on multiple committees as well as a term as chief of the Department of Medicine.

Over the years, Bailey has been involved in the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians. He was named the 1995 Professional Leader of the Year by the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in developing a physician’s health alliance.
